Just over a month ago I changed the location of my blog after I blew up the old blogspot template with some good old fashioned fat fingered tampering, all done without the safety net of a back up file. Well my lesson has been learned and I now have a new WordPress template. I’m still discovering all the bells and whistles of this new format and I’m sure it will take some time to refine and I can assure you, like Castle Sidewalker, it will never be finished!
With a decent amount of time elapsed since the change over, I took a moment of my time to check the blogs traffic stats. Since I moved to WordPress I had not had one visit initiated from a search engine. That was a little weird as my search engine traffic at the old place used to be quite healthy, and if I’m to be honest quite amusing, as I used to get a report of the search terms people used to find me (that is a topic for a whole new post).
Well an hour later of sifting through all the new options I have at my disposal I found the answer. I had not un-clicked a privacy button in the settings panel. I had blocked all access to the site from search engines period! So after wandering the search engine desert for many days and many nights, I’m happy to say the ‘Prodigal Blog’ has returned!
So for the person in Trondheim, Norway that used to come to my old blog by searching for ‘How to become an economist’, welcome back old friend…

LOL! I have done things like that myself.
The good thing about computers is that they do exactly what you tell them to do; the bad thing about computers is that they do exactly what you tell them to do.
Glad you got things sorted out. I’m happy to report by reading you I have now returned to the habits of stopping to pick up change I see lying around – used to ignore the pennies, but they do add up as evidenced by my growing change jar. Wishing you happy holidays!
No backup… yes, well, having just been the victim of a total hard drive melt down at my own place I can empathize. I have lost all the ‘professional’ photos I ever too for the Animal Companion magazine, my Budapest photos and 4 years of Rugby trips plus my jaunt accross Europe last Spring.
there is a slim hope that this company I have been recommended will salvage something but it’s going to cost several hundred $ – many times the Sidewalker fund shall we say!
From now on… BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
