The 15th of the month rolled around quickly, so that means it’s off to the supermarket again for my monthly ‘man in the street’ inflation or deflation litmus test! The white seedless grapes are continuing their relentless push higher. I’m wondering how long it will be until a bunch of grapes are more expensive than a bottle of wine!
As you can see the bottom half of my list the prices have remained quite static. Sugar getting a little cheaper, but overall the cost of my basket of groceries has risen about 1% over last months check. Should the Federal Reserve have their finger on the trigger to raise rates? My opinion on this is don’t hold your breath, no relief for savers any time soon!

take the cash and buy a silver eagle!
That’s pricey for a 2-liter! It stinks that in a month your bill went up, even if only a little bit.
So, Sir Sidewalker, I have a question about your monthly shopping habits…
Do they reflect just base prices, so it’s simply a test of the inflation/deflation process or… are you taking into account the various methods we all have to be more frugal in our shopping choices?
For instance, do you take into account weekly emailed supermarket specials?
Do you look in the Sunday NY Times or anywhere else for clipable coupons?
Would you choose another brand name if it were on special on the shelf?
Just wondering… and yes, I know, I am tardy getting any photos of the Guatemalan volcanoes up on Facebook.
The prices are base supermarket prices without any manufacturers coupons or store loyalty card discounts. This is not my actual shopping list, but rather a list of products that at some time or other find their way into the average American family’s shopping basket over the course of a month. Rest assured my frugality extends to our shopping habits, it is not cheap provisioning Castle Sidewalker, hence the heavy use of coupons, store brands and any other way to save money short of shoplifting!

I need to send you Coke (.99 here), tuna fish (same stuff on sale for .79 here) and Charmin.
Oh, well. We all have to eat despite the prices.
Hmmm…maybe a few more of us should start blogging about this. It would be interesting to compare regional trends with one another.
